Your opinions on a new OPAC entry screen

I have temporarily modified the entry screen on the test OPAC so that when patrons log in they go directly to their account summary, with a list of checkouts and holds etc. (what you would get if you clicked My account/review my account) This is in response to a few pieces of patron feedback expressing frustration with the number of clicks it takes to get to details of their account.

I think that what patrons are actually looking for is a direct login from either their local library website or the DLC portal page, but I don’t think that this is technically feasible- although I’m going to ask the Sirsi folk- because the login process calls a number of specific routines from the database that are not available externally.

For myself, I am in the habit of logging in when I go to the catalog, but that’s probably not typical. If most library users log in when they want some specific account info, then this new interface might be appealing. What do you think that patrons are logging in for, primarily?

You can check how it works at http://delatest.sirsi.net or watch a demo here.

The opening screen is the same- patrons will be presented with the search box and options they are used to seeing. Log in to see the new environment. Let me know if you have trouble logging in, because the test server has been iffy at times recently. And remember that you can only access the test server from within the library, not at home. UPDATE: The YouTube link was added for people who can't get into the test OPAC. You can comment directly on the YouTube page, or make a comment on this site.
