It's a simple way of allowing catalog users to send links to pages directly to their social networking sites, blogs, bookmarking sites, or email contacts. Clicking on the "share this" icon pops-up a window with a number of bookmarking choices directly into the catalog screen, without any need to highlight, cut and paste, use the 'add to list' function, or any other circuitous route.
For instance, here is link to a list of search results using the subject term 'siege':

It's not foolproof yet for everything- mostly because a number of iBistro result pages are not persistent URLs and can't be linked back to between sessions. ShareThis will mark pages that are subject or author results lists, ISBN results for single titles or title results for single titles- essentially anything that has a search string built in to the URL.
You'll find the ShareThis link in the sidebar of results screens, currently buried underneath the QuestionPoint chat widget. After some road testing, I may move it up in the screen so it is 'above the fold' and more visible to patrons. Please test it out and let me know what you think.

I tried to share in face book but in my face book it told me i would need to enable java scripting.. did look in tools butnot sure what to enable?
I work for another SIRSI site and wondered if you could give me some instruction on how you added the RSS feed and the other 2.0 features.. I think they are great!
In Firefox, check your browser's Tools: options: content menu, and check the enable javascript and enable java boxes. In IE, you may need to update or check the Internet Options: Advanced menu for java choices.
The catalog features were added by customizing the othersearches.h file to add the links and scripts. For the librarything enhancements, the scripts were added to the dspholdings.h file
